Multan: 6 hurt in yet another attack on police
MULTAN: Six people, including three police officials and three under-trial prisoners, were injured in a blast at Qazzafi police picket near Chowk Kumharan in Multan. According to RPO Aamir Zulfiqar, explosives were planted in a motorcycle which had been parked along the wall of the picket.
This was the second consecutive attack on the police as on Saturday a police station was attacked in Kolachi, killing 10 cops. Three police officials, identified as Sajjad, Khadim and Irshad, sustained injuries while three under-trial prisoners who were injured included Qaisar Abbas, Danish and Imran.
All the injured are in a stable condition, a Rescue 1122 official said. According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, eight to nine kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani strongly condemned the suicide blast at a checkpost in Multan.
President Zardari in a message said such incidents of terrorism could not deter the state’s resolve to uproot this menace. He directed best possible treatment for the injured.
Prime Minister Gilani termed Multan blast as a cowardly act of sick mindset. The terrorists, he said, are targeting police stations to create panic and fear among the innocent citizens in cities.
He praised the courage of the police officials who confronted the terrorists to save their colleagues and civilians. Such inhuman acts, he reiterated, cannot demoralize the security officials in confronting such insane and anti-state elements, who neither believe in any religion nor any human values.
The prime minister said the government and people of Pakistan are determined to fight terrorism and eliminate such elements who want to create instability and spoil the image of the country.
The prime minister directed the concerned authorities to take care of those who are injured and ensure proper medical care. He also directed the security agencies to take appropriate measures in all cities and towns to prevent any possible act of terror through vigilance and intelligence sharing.
