Lahore: 4 witnesses submit affidavits
LAHORE: Ten private witnesses on Tuesday submitted their affidavits in the magisterial court of Kanwar Anwaar in a case against police officials, including a DSP Riasat, allegedly involved in a fake encounter.
They appeared before the court and submitted their affidavits containing their statements regarding what they saw when alleged robber, Shahbaz, was shot dead in the encounter. In the last hearing, Judicial Magistrate Naeem Abbas had sent DSP Riasat Bajwa and three other police officials to jail on a 14-day judicial remand and fixed July 4 the next date of the case.
As per details, three robbers, including Shahbaz Butt, stormed into Makkah Medical Store at Yuhannabad late on last Friday.
They looted Rs35,000 while the owner of the store, showing resistance, started scuffling with Shahbaz. In the meantime, two other robbers fled away from the scene just as the brother of the owner arrived. Shahbaz resorted to firing into the air, however, the owner succeeded in capturing him. Later, two bikes of Muhafiz Squad arrived at the spot and Sub–Inspector Riaz took Shahbaz in his custody and later killed him near Rohi Nullah.
After the media reports on the fake encounter, Principal Police Training School (PTS) Chuhng, DIG Major (r) Mubashirullah held an inquiry into the matter on the orders of the IGP Punjab and a case was registered under sections 302/34 and 109 of the PPC against four accused police officials.
