Sanghar: Truck catches fire as thieves vandalise oil pipeline
SANGHAR: A truck mounted with a concealed tank caught fire when some unknown persons tried to vandalise a pipeline to steal crude oil in Gundhan area, four kilometres from here Wednesday.
The miscreants fled after the fire, leaving the truck burning. The pipeline travels 8 kilometres to carry the crude oil from an oil well in Chak No. 5 to the Bobby oilfield administered by the Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited.
A team of OGDCL officers who inspected the gutted truck and the vandalised pipeline told journalists that police were not cooperating with them.
The team said that the company had over the past registered four FIRs against oil thieves at Jhol police station but police had failed to arrest any culprit yet.
Area people said that oil theft had almost become a booming trade in the area and an organised mafia was operating this illegal business.
The company`s security guards said that they could do little to stop theft incidents because the thieves struck at the pipeline where it was laid on privately owned cultivated land. No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, Sangahr District Police Officer Abdullah Shaikh has suspended SHO of Jhol police station Ghulam Nabi Memon for negligence in duty.
