Violence claims four lives in metropolis
KARACHI: Four people, including an activist of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), were killed in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis on Wednesday.
Owner of an automobile shop and his labourer were shot dead, whereas another labourer injured near Al-Asif Square, within the remits of Sohrab Goth police station. The incident took place at Al-Nafay mechanic shop, situated outside Maymar View apartment. Shop owner Mehtab, son of Rashid, was at the counter while his two labourers Nasir and Tariq, sons of Abdul Rasheed were repairing motorcycles when three armed men reached and without a warning opened fire. Resultantly, all three men received bullet injuries. Police shifted injured persons to the nearest hospital where Mehtab and Nasir succumbed to their injuries.
According to DSP Iftikhar Lodhi it was premature to pin the blame on anyone but two days ago Mehtab had clashed with Sher Zaman, brother of a former Station House Officer (SHO). Zaman wanted to have his bike repaired from Mehtab’s shop. Mehtab informed him about the cost of repair on which both men argued and Zaman left the shop. DSP Lodhi further said some eyewitnesses’ account that Zaman along with Najeeb Irani and another accomplice were involved in the incident. Police officials said Nasir was a resident of Ayub Goth and hailed from Rahim Yar Khan.
His brother’s condition is also critical. Case has not been registered till filing of this report. In another incident police found a headless body of young man near Sajjan Goth Telephone Exchange in Saeedabad police limits. The identity of victim is yet to be ascertained. SHO Abdul Moid said that the area locals informed police about the presence of dead body. Few inches from the body, a head was also found wrapped in a plastic bag. Officer said that the victim had torture marks on his body and wore blue jeans and shirt. Body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities and later moved to the Edhi Morgue for identification purpose.
Separately, an activist of PPP was shot dead while five others injured in a clash between two groups at Nagina Centre within Jackson police precincts. The incident took place at Docks Colony after a protest staged by the residents against power failures. They were returning to their homes when unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on the residents. Resultantly, Rafiullah, son of Faiz Ullah, received a bullet and died on the spot while Abdul Rehman, Saood and two others received bullet injuries.
Police shifted the dead and injured to CHK for autopsy and treatment. According to police, Rafiullah was an activist of PPP and resident of the same area. Later, tension engulfed the surrounding areas while heavy contingents of police were rushed to the spot. Police said no arrest was made while area situation is under control.
