Islamabad: 7,290 suspects held in 2011
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police nabbed a total of 7,290 persons during year 2011 for their alleged involvement in suspicious and anti-social activities, a police spokesman said.
During the ongoing year, Islamabad Police nabbed 7,290 criminals including 807 proclaimed offenders as well as court absconders and recovered huge quantity of weapons, drugs and looted items worth Rs.147 millions from them.
According to the report presented to SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, a total of 279 gangs were also busted while 945 persons involved in these gangs were also arrested. A total of 2,361 cases were sent to court after completing the investigation on them during this year. Around 961 beggars were also arrested during this period while special crackdown was also launched against the suspected elements in the city. According to this report, 264 kilogram hashish, 21.839 kilogram heroin, 11 kilogram opium, 11034 wine bottles, 389 pistols and 34 rifles and guns, eight Kalashnikovs, 17 daggers, 4031 rounds were recovered from the nabbed criminals.
The SSP reviewed overall performance of Islamabad police force and further directed all police officials to accelerate their efforts against criminal elements. As many as 29 gangs of car thieves were busted and 101 auto-thieves were arrested from whom 111 stolen and 19 snatched vehicles were recovered. As many as 1,788 suspects were arrested by various police stations of Islamabad and action was taken against 87 persons for violating Shop and Security Ordinance.
