Karachi: PPP activist among five gunned down
Karachi: The city’s streets turned bloody once again on Saturday as five people, including a PPP activist, were gunned down at different places in the city. Forty-three-year old Nazeer Lashari was tending to his vegetable stall with his 13-year-old son, Samiullah, in Bhains Colony’s Hassan Omer Goth, when two men riding a motorcycle opened fire at them and fled the scene.
Wounded and in critical condition, the father and son were rushed to hospital but both succumbed to their injuries. According to the Shah Latif police, Lashari lived in Bhains Colony and hailed from Sindh’s Shikarpur district, where the rest of his family live.
Investigators also said that Lashari had an enmity with some people from his hometown who are suspected to be responsible for his murder.
The night before Lashari and his son’s murder, a wedding celebration in Baldia Town was cut short when two men riding a motorcycle targeted PPP activist Imran on KS Mujahid Road. He succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital as he had sustained several bullet wounds.
The police informed The News that the event was hosted by one Imtiaz and Imran was one of his guests. They confirmed he was a PPP activist and resident of Mawach Goth.
PPP activists and leaders condemned the killing which they claimed was another targeted attack, and said that a rival group had Imran’s blood on their hands.
In yet another target killing case, 23-year-old Adeel’s life was tragically cut short while he was sitting at a sweet shop owned by his brother near Bihani Chowk late on Friday night after two men riding a motorcycle shot him dead.
He was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead after succumbing to three bullet injuries on various parts of his body.
Investigators added that Adeel’s murder to the everlasting list of target killings in the city. They said that Adeel’s elder brother had been continuously receiving threats from a local extortion group. They added that the brothers then received death threats from the group. He was a resident of Brigade’s Khudaad Colony.
On Saturday night, 55-year-old Salman suffered the same fate as Adeel when he was gunned down by motorcyclists near Albella Signal while he was driving through the Soldier Bazaar area.
Witnesses rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to police, Salman received two bullet injuries in his head. He lived in Lyari’s Lea Market.
Investigators believed that Salman’s murder was a target killing, but they were waiting to receive more information from his family regarding other possible motives for the homicide.
