Suspected robber dies after lynching by mob
Karachi: In a horrifying scene that resembled the lynching of two brothers in Sialkot last year, a suspected robber, accidentally shot and injured by his accomplice, was killed on Friday night after a mob seeking medieval justice beat him and his companion.
According to the police, they received information about a violent situation developing in New Karachi’s Shadman Town. When the Sharea Noor Jehan police arrived at the scene, they witnessed the public’s cry for vigilante justice, as they had openly voiced their intention to kill two men, later identified as Peer Bux and Ibrahim; who they claim were attempting to snatch a car. Officials also learnt that the suspects had opened fire at the car’s driver, Kauser.
The police attempted to free the suspects but the mob would take no prisoners and they managed to keep officials away from their target. Outnumbered and overpowered, the police called for reinforcements and it was only after the arrival of back-up units that they were able to pry the men from the crowd’s clutches.
The bruised and battered men were rushed to hospital for treatment, where Peer Bux succumbed to his injuries. Investigators said that he was accidently shot by Ibrahim when he tried to stop Kauser from escaping their grasp.
The pair was later intercepted by an enraged public and severely beaten. Kauser reported the incident with the police, informing police officials that he was a resident of North Nazimabad and was returning home when the aforementioned suspects attempted to snatch his car near Shadman Chowk at which point he stepped on the accelerator in an attempt to flee. He confirmed that the suspects shot at him.
Officials revealed that both the suspected robbers were wanted by the police including and the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) for grand theft auto, as they were incriminated in a number of carjacking cases.
