Karachi: Muttahida activist gunned down
KARACHI: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was gunned down in the Nazimabad area in the early hours of Monday, police said.
They added that 37-year-old Rafiquddin was returning home after meeting some friends when he was targeted by armed riders outside a car rental shop near Nazimabad No 2.
“The victim was an area resident and a known worker of the MQM,” said an official at the Nazimabad police station. “Witnesses say they saw three men on a motorbike intercepting Rafiquddin, who was on foot. One of them fired a few shots at him before speeding away with his accomplices. The victim sustained three bullet wounds and died on the spot.”
He said the body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, the police official showed unawareness of the killers and their motive behind the attack. Following the incident, traffic on roads in the area gradually disappeared and commercial areas were found shut.
