Seven die in SWA clash
WANA: Seven people were killed and six others sustained injuries when two tribes clashed over the possession of a mountain in Shakai tehsil in South Waziristan, official and tribal sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said the differences cropped up between the members of two sub-tribes of Malikshai Wazir namely Sheikhmarai and Dheer over the ownership of a mountain in Mantoi area of Shakai tehsil, sited some 50 kilometres to the north-east of Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan.
Assistant Political Agent Mohammad Shoaib confirmed the incident and said a Jirga comprising 30 elders had been sent to the area to bring an end to hostilities and resolve differences between the warring sides.
The tribesmen, the sources said, took positions on hilltops and traded heavy gunfire using automatic weapons. Seven people were killed and six others suffered wounds in the firefight. The injured were shifted to private clinics. Two of the injured were in a critical condition.
