Islamabad: NPF ex-deputy director remanded to FIA for 3 days
ISLAMABAD: Senior Civil Judge Mehmood Ahmed on Thursday awarded four-day physical remand of National Police Foundation (NPF) ex-deputy director housing to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Rs 6 billion NPF land scam.
The court also ordered FIA to arrest the main accused, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan as soon as possible and properly investigate the case.
A first information report (FIR) vide No 17/11 was registered with FIA Special Investigation Unit (SIU), under section 420/ 406/ 468/ 471/ 109 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on July 5 against the PML-N MNA from Islamabad Anjum Aqeel Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed and Mian Amin, former IGPs, Abdul Hanan and Nafees Ahmed, former DIGs, and Khuda Bakhsh, a former deputy director of NPF.
According to FIA, the case was registered against these persons on the order of Supreme Court (SC) in a suo motu case on June 21. The SC had ordered the managing director of the foundation to initiate action as the NPF Committee had established irregularities and corruption in purchase of land.
Bakash was allegedly involved in Rs 6 billion corruption in NPF land purchase during his service period. MNA Anjum Aqeel`s company Land Linkers was chosen to procure land for the housing scheme in Islamabad`s Sector E-11 for police personnel. The NPF officials and high-ups extended undue favours to Anjum Aqeel in the procuring of land and instead of allotting plots to other police personnel they arbitrarily and illegally got 10 to 15 plots allotted in their own names.
According to FIA, Baksh played a main role in this scam. He issued the allotment letters of many plots without the approval of competent authority. The former managing director and other officials of the NPF were involved in irregularities in the procurement of land. Vague agreements were made for the procurement of land without any final cut-off date for the supply of land and settlement of accounts by the NPF with Land Linkers.
Another FIR vide No 342/11 dated July 2, 2011 has been already register against above-mentioned persons with Shalimar Police Station on the charges of corruption, fraud and cheating. The accused was arrested on July 3 during a raid.
The Shalimar police officials produced the accused before Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Rai Liyaqat Ali Kharal on July 4 who granted 3-day physical of accused.
On Thursday FIA produced the accused before court and informed that the accused played important role in NPF land scam. He transferred 608 kanals land to Capital Development Authority (CDA) but they transferred 563 kanals to CDA. The land procured through Land Linkers was neither finally quantified by the previous NPF administration till last year nor any effort was made to resolve the issue of shortage of land/rendition of accounts with the company.
