Lahore: Policeman shot dead, son injured
LAHORE: A police sub-inspector was shot dead and his son injured when he was going to drop his son at Punjab University by two unidentified killers near Jallo roundabout in the Batapur police area on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, and his injured son as Adil, 18, residents of Jallo village. Police said Tariq was currently deployed in Sadar police station in Sheikhupura district.
Batapur SHO Inspector Abid Hussain told The News that Tariq and his son Adil were going to Punjab University in their car (LOS-1264) when two unidentified armed men, riding a 125 motorcycle, intercepted them near Jallo roundabout at around 9:50 am and opened indiscriminate firing on the car. The SHO said Sub-Inspector Tariq suffered 12 bullets and died on the spot while his son Adil sustained three bullets. He said Adil had been shifted to hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
He said police reached the spot and cordoned off the area. He said police had registered a case against two unidentified killers on the complaint of the deceased’s brother Ayaz Mahmood.
The SHO said Tariq Mahmood had come to his house on Sunday on a five-day leave. He said the incident did not look a robbery-cum-murder as unidentified attackers had not take away anything.
It seems that it was the result of an old enmity, the SHO said, adding that the family of deceased however had not nominated anyone in the case yet.
He said victim Tariq was an aged person but he had contracted second marriage of his choice with a young woman about three years back.
From his first wife, Tariq had three daughters and two sons. His one son was selected as a second lieutenant couple of months ago while his three daughters were married.
The SHO said that the deceased had a son from his second wife as well. He suspected that Tariq’s second marriage might have lead to some rivalries to which they would investigate initially and later would check involvement of any criminals in the incident.
