Karachi: Driver shot dead over resistance
KARACHI: A trawler driver was killed in what police described as an armed robbery bid on the Northern Bypass on Sunday evening. “Drivers Mohammad Ilyas and Mohammad Riaz were replacing a punctured tyre of their truck on the bypass near Swat Hotel when two young men riding a motorcycle arrived there and demanded cash at gunpoint,” said a duty officer of the Surjani Town police station.
The official quoted Mohammad Riaz as saying that Ilyas attempted to overpower one of the suspects, who fired shots at him and managed to flee. The police said the wounded driver was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An FIR (402/2011) was later registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of Mohammad Riaz at the Surjani Town police station.
