Lahore: CCPO ordered to probe illegal detention
LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mahrukh Aziz on Saturday directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) to hold an inquiry for the recovery of a detainee from the alleged custody of Chuhng police.
A resident of Chuhng, Chaudhary Iftikhar, filed a habeas corpus petition in the court alleging that Chuhng police had detained his brother Muhammad Anwer illegally. He said his brother was abducted by the police without any charge.
The court had issued a notice to the Chuhng police SHO to produce the detainee before the court. On Saturday, Sub Inspector Aijaz of Chuhng police station appeared before the court and stated that the aforementioned person was not detained by the police.
On this, petitioner submitted cuttings of different newspapers carrying a news item about the arrest of Muhammad Anwer by Chuhng police. On this, the court has directed the CCPO to hold an inquiry into the matter and submit a report before the court.
