4 peace body members killed in SWA blast
WANA: Four members of the Shakai peace committee in South Waziristan Agency were killed and three others seriously injured when their vehicle was blown up by a roadside blast on Tuesday.
Tribal sources said the peace committee members were on their way from their office to Shakai bazaar when their car was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Rabot Shudiakai area, located 45 kilometres northeast of Wana, the main town of South Waziristan.
Those killed were identified as Abdul Samad, Wali Jan, Said Rasool Wazir and Ismail Khan Wazir, while the injured are Ayaz Khan Wazir, Khatim Mohammad and Mohammad Ali Wazir. The wounded men were admitted to the South Waziristan Scouts Hospital in Wana and one of them was stated to be in critical condition.
Shakai valley, inhabited by the Wazir tribespeople, was previously considered to be the stronghold of foreign militants involved in attacks against Pakistani security forces. Tribesmen from Shakai expelled foreigners after fierce clashes with the peace committee members. The militants subsequently started target killings of tribal elders and peace committee members.
