Karachi: 8, including 2 sisters and 2 cops, killed in violence, mishaps
KARACHI: Eight people, including two sisters and two policemen, were killed in separate incidents of violence and mishaps in the metropolis on Thursday.
Two real sisters were shot dead by their nephews in Rehmania Colony within the remits of Liaquatabad police station. The tragic incident took place at Liaquatabad No 1, near Rehmania Mosque. The siblings, 28-year-old Shakira, wife of Hamid, and 30-year-old Tahira, wife of Shahzad, reached their home along with a court bailiff, to take possession from their nephews. The nephews Zulfiqar alias Nonie and Faraz started an argument with the siblings and opened fire killing both on the spot.
After committing the crime Zulfiqar escaped from the scene, while police arrested Faraz recovering a TT pistol from his possession. Bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said both victims were the owners of the house, occupied by their nephews, adding that they registered a petition in court and on Thursday the court had given orders in their favour. They were schoolteachers by profession and lived in Liaquatabad.
On the other hand, some eyewitnesses say that the nephews opened gunfire while in police detention. Police denying the allegation say that the victims were killed in their house. A probe has been initiated into the case.
Separately, a policeman was shot dead near Hassan Square within the jurisdiction of PIB police station. Forty-year-old Jummah Khan, son of Misri Khan, boarded a bus to his home from Hassan Square police headquarter when two bandits started looting mobile phones and cash from the passengers. When Khan offered resistance one bandit opened fire and injured him critically. After their swift operation the bandits managed to flee unchallenged. Police shifted Khan to the nearest private hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries. Later police moved his body to the JPMC for post-mortem.
Police officials say that the victim was deployed at a security zone and was also performing his duties at Bilawal House. He was a father of seven. An FIR (177/11) has been registered against unidentified men on the complaint of victim’s brother Manzoor and probe has been initiated.
Another cop, a constable of excise police was shot dead near Hassan Square Chowrangi within the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station. The incident took place at Sir Shah Suleman Road. Thirty-year-old Ali Mohammad son of Khair Mohammad was going somewhere in a taxi when unidentified armed men intercepted and shot him thrice. Police shifted him to the nearest private hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. A police official confirmed that the victim, a resident of Jehanabad Lyari was in excise police.
In other incident, a policeman was injured at Qazzafi Chowk Orangi Town within the jurisdiction of Orangi Town police station. Thirty-year-old Ali Mohammad son of Khair Mohammad was on his way home after duty when unidentified armed men attacked him. He was critically shot and later shifted to the Qatar Hospital. Police officials say Ali was performing his duties at a security zone. He was also a driver of Sindh Chief Secretary’s squad.
In yet another incident, police found a bullet-riddled body of a youth from an empty plot in Korangi within the precincts of Zaman Town police station. The victim identified as Babar Khan, 25, son of Akbar Khan, was a resident of Ibrahim Hyderi. His body was found abandoned at an empty ground situated in sector 50-A, Korangi No 4.
A police official said that the victim had six bullet wounds. He was a labour by profession and had no affiliation with any political or religious party. Body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy and later handed over to the family.
Meanwhile, a watchman hung himself in his house located in the slums of Hussain Hazara Goth within the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station. Victim Fayyaz, 45, son of Abdul Malik was a father of four and used to work as a watchman in the same area. The reason for his suicide could not be ascertained. Police have shifted the dead body to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
In a road accident, a man was crushed to death while another injured near Village Hotel, Sea View, Clifton within the remits of Darakhshan police station. Mian Hussain, 25,son of Jalil Ahmed, was going on his motorcycle (KEI-4583) with 52-year-old Shams Islam, son of Yaqoob, when a speeding vehicle (AKL-958) overran them. Resultantly both received injuries and Hussain died on the spot. After getting the information police rushed to the spot and arrested the responsible driver, Zahid, shifting the body and injured to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
Police officials say that the victim was a resident of Ibrahim Hyderi and a fisherman by profession. Police have registered a case against Zahid while further investigation is underway.
Similarly, in another incident a man was crushed to death near Saeedabad police training centre within the jurisdiction of Mauripur police station. The victim, 35-year-old Mazhar Hussain, son of Naeem, was a resident of Sector 8-A Baldia Town. He was going to the factory he was employed at, when a speeding vehicle knocked him and fled. Hussain died on the spot while his body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy.
