Lahore: Contempt notice to SHO
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued contempt of court notice to Shera Kot SHO Irfan Asghar Butt for refusing to cooperate with the court bailiff in recovery of a woman and for tempering with police record.
The petitioner, Muhammad Pervez, had filed a habeas corpus petition through advocate Shabbir Bokhari for recovery of her mother from the illegal detention of Akhtar Hussain. The petitioner had a property dispute with Akhtar. Justice Qasim Khan had deputed bailiff Tariq Aziz for the recovery of woman. The bailiff told the court when he reached Shera Kot police station to seek police assistance, the SHO straightaway refused to co-operate with him.
At this, the judge summoned SSP (Operations) on a short notice, who reached the court at 1:00pm and informed it that the bailiff had not waited for police assistance, the bailiff had had reached the political station at 7:30am and left it after an hour.
This made Justice Khan angry and he admonished SSP for misleading the court. The judge warned him that he would be suspended if he did not mend his ways. The judge directed the SSP to present daily diary of the police station to substantiate his statement and adjourned the hearing until 4pm.
As proceedings resumed, SP (Operations) presented the diary before the court. The judge thoroughly examined it and found it tempered.
The judge got the daily copied as a part of the court record, issuing contempt notice to the SHO. On the issue of detained woman, the judge asked SP (Operations) to recover the lady and produce her before the court on Friday (today).
