Shells fired from Afghan side kill two in Bajaur
KHAR: Two people were killed and five others injured in yet another cross-border incursion by Afghan based militants in Bandagai area in Bajaur Agency on Thursday, tribal and official sources said.
The militants fired seven mortar shells into Bandagai village in the Mamond tehsil of Bajaur tribal region, sources said, adding that some of the mortar shells fell on houses and killed two persons, including a woman. Five persons, including children and women, were injured in the incident. The injured people were taken to Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khar.
Just a few days ago, on Tuesday, four soldiers of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) were killed in a similar mortar shell attack in South Waziristan’s Angoor Adda. Despite repeated protests and demands by Pakistan to Afghanistan as well as Nato and US forces to stop border violations, the deadly incursions continue. Bajaur Agency borders Afghanistan’s Kunar province where, Pakistani officials say, militants have built safe havens.
