Karachi: Target killing suspects among 11 arrested
Karachi: After a police crackdown, 11 suspects, including two target killers, were arrested while the raids also lad to the recovery of arms, hashish and stolen property.
The chief of the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) told a press conference at his office on Friday that the AEC had been assigned to hunt down criminals involved in target killings, kidnappings and other crimes.
SSP Mohammed Aslam Khan explained that two teams had been formed under the supervision of DSP Ali Raza to target localities in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Malir. The raids led to the arrest of Fahim Hussain alias Chipta, Mohammed Faisal Baig, Mubashir Ahmed, Nasir Hussain alias Munawar, Mohammed Fahim, Ahmed, Fahim, Illyas Jatt, Shahnawaz Channa, Farhan Ali and Jehangir, he said.
One Kalashnikov, Rs0.7 million in cash, valuable jewelry, three vehicles, one repeater rifle, one 0.222 rifle, eight TT pistols, a 9mm pistol, two kilogrammes of hashish, stolen mobile phones as well as digital cameras and various forms of ammunition were recovered during raids.
SSP Khan said that upon further investigation Farhan and Jehangir were found involved in the target killing of prominent businessman Hafiz Abdul Al–Aalee in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The aforementioned suspects told interrogators that while they were targeting Hafiz, the latter took out his pistol and opened fire at them injuring Farhan. However, the accused managed to kill Hafiz before fleeing the scene with the deceased’s 9mm pistol.
Farhan was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) where the suspects told the medical staff that he was injured by bandits in Ferozeabad after which they even filed a fabricated First Information Report (FIR) with Ferozeabad police to support their claims.
Fahim alias Chipta was suspected of killing a man during an armed robbery in Azizabad as well as abducting another man from Malir Cantt. The accused allegedly released his victim after receiving a heavy ransom.
Another man also by the name of Fahim was accused of committing a house robbery with an accomplice in Jamshed Town where the pair looted Rs0.7 million in cash and valuable jewelry which was recovered from their possession by police during their arrest.
Nasir Hussain alias Munawar has been wanted for bank robberies including one that took place in Korangi Industrial Area worth Rs3.3 million. He was also suspected in car thefts.
