DIK jail superintendent, others suspended over prisoners’ escape
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The probe committee, formed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to investigate the escape of five prisoners from the Central Prison of Dera Ismail Khan during loadshedding, submitted the preliminary report of the incident to the Home Department on Monday and subsequently two officials were suspended.
Sources said the inquiry committee members included Inspector General Prisons Qudratullah Marwat, Additional Home Secretary Muhammad Ramzan and Additional IG Masoodur Rahman. After the initial inquiry, the IG Prisons suspended the superintendent of the Dera Ismail Khan prison, Khalid Abbas, for dereliction of duty along with Musharraf Shah, an assistant superintendent.
The committee in its report also found 10 other officials of the prison negligent in their duties. They have already been suspended. The officials investigating the incident also questioned the two prisoners, Fazal Subhan and Matoon, who were later re-arrested by the police, the sources said.
