Security man killed, three hurt in South Waziristan
LADDHA: A security man was killed and three others received injuries in different incidents in South Waziristan Agency on Tuesday, sources said.
In the first incident, a security man was killed and two others were injured when a remote controlled bomb planted by suspected militants along Wana-Angor Adda Road in Sholan area went off.
The security personnel were clearing the road from mines for movement of convoys. Meanwhile, eight mortar and rocket shells, fired from Afghanistan side, landed in Angor Adda area of the tribal region. One of the shells hit a bunker of security forces and injured a soldier identified as Atif. In another incident, a public call office, owned by Habib Karekhel, was blown up in Angor Adda at midnight between Monday and Tuesday.
However, no casualty was reported. Our Peshawar Bureau adds: The security forces claimed to have gained full control of Janata valley of South Waziristan Agency where “Operation Tri Star” was launched against militants on July 13. A press release issued by ISPR here on Tuesday said that terrorists in Janata valley had occupied the surrounding heights and set up sanctuaries and training centres there.
The terrorists from those hideouts used to operate deep in south region, the release said. To eliminate terrorists, a two-pronged operation was launched in 28 square kilometers of area.
The operation was successfully completed and security forces gained full control of Janata valley, inflicting heavy casualties on terrorists besides seizing a huge cache of arms and ammunition, it said.
The release said that during search and clearance operation in the area it was found that terrorists had planted an improvised explosive device in the Holy Quran which was testimony to the fact that they were oblivious to Islamic values. During operation a number of terrorists were killed and three of their key members were captured alive, the release claimed.
Besides destroying terrorist sanctuaries a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also seized. “The seizures include two 75mm recoilless rifles, five 12.7mm guns, one 82mm mortar, one missile launcher with two missiles, fourteen 127mm rockets and 50,000 b of various calibre,” it said. Security forces also defused sixteen IEDs, the release added.
