Woman commits suicide, two others killed in metropolis
LAHORE: At least three people, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents across the metropolis on Tuesday. In the first incident, a mother of three, committed suicide after cutting her throat with a sharp edged weapon in Defence-A police limits.
The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Shaheen Banu, a resident of Phase IV, Defence. Police, while quoting her family, said that Shaheen was suffering from depression for the past few months and might have committed suicide owing to this illness. Police handed over the dead body to the heirs after legal formalities were completed.
In the second incident, a fight erupted between two groups that claimed the life of a 22-year-old youth, while dozens were injured in the precincts of Hadiara police.
The deceased was identified as Irfan Ali, resident of Kewinda village. According to police, young boys belonging to Mayo Group and Kamhar Group were quarrelling over a minor issue. After coming to know about the fight, elders of both the groups reached the spot with clubs and hockeys. A bloody scuffle followed, as a result of which, several persons received multiple injuries. Locals reached the spot and tried to stop the fight while some informed the police. Later, the injured persons were taken to different hospitals where Irfan succumbed to his injuries. Police shifted the dead body to a city mortuary for autopsy. Police had not registered any case till the filing of this report. In the third incident, a 65-year-old mentally unstable prisoner died in a local hospital in the limits of Shadman police.
The deceased was identified as Ghulam Raza of Muzaffargarh, Multan. Police said that the victim was in jail for the last nine years on the charges of murder. Initially, he was kept in the Multan jail but after his mental condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Camp Jail, Lahore. Shadman SHO said that Raza was under treatment for the past several months. On Tuesday, his condition worsened and he was immediately shifted to the Services Hospital where he succumbed to his illness, the SHO said. Police removed the body to a city morgue for autopsy.
Separately, at least six persons were injured when a rashly driven car hit a rickshaw near NHA office, Thokar Niaz Baig. According to Edhi and Rescue 1122 officials, a carelessly driven car collided with a rickshaw near NHA office located near Thokar Niaz Baig Chowk at around 5pm. As a result, 21-year-old Asim, 23-year-old Imtiaz, 18-year-old Aslam, 23-year-old Noor Gul, 30-year-old Munir, and Rizwan received serious injuries. Rescue 1122 officials rushed them to a nearby hospital where their condition was declared to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a house situated in Gulberg-III near ASF Camp due to short-circuiting, reducing valuables and furniture worth thousands of rupees to ashes.
Another fire broke out at the house of a citizen, Muhammad Shaukat, the reason being short-circuiting. Furniture and other valuables worth thousands of rupees were gutted. Rescue 1122, after being informed, reached the spot and was able to control the fire. No injury was reported in any of the incidents.
