Karachi: Man freed after seven extra months in jail
Karachi: A convict Danish Shamjee who spent seven extra months in jail in a robbery attempt case was handed down a sentence of one-and-a-half years’ imprisonment by a sessions court on Wednesday.
He was consequently released availing the benefit of Section 382-B (the period of detention to be considered from the time of arrest) of Criminal Procedure Code.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (East), Judicial Complex, Sagheer Ahmed Sheikh, convicted Danish Shamjee and awarded him one-and-a-half years’ imprisonment for attempting to rob one Mohammed Saleem.
According to the prosecution, Saleem was passing through Qadri Chowk behind Bakara Hotel along with his wife on a motorcycle on June 30, 2009 when Shamjee intercepted them and attempted to deprive the couple of their valuables. However, Saleem’s wife started shouting following which a police mobile reached the spot and arrested Shamjee.
He was booked by the Kharadar police and was in jail since. The court announced its judgment on Wednesday after the prosecution proved the case. The judge observed that the prosecution successfully established its case.
