Sabotage bid foiled in Swabi
SWABI: Police claimed here on Monday to have foiled a sabotage bid by recovering 12 bombs, planted by unidentified persons in Shahmansur area of the district.
“We have found 12 bombs, however, our search for more bombs is continued in the area,” said District Police Officer Mohammad Ijaz Khan. He feared that more bombs might be planted in the surrounding areas.
He said that police were tasked to search the surroundings and report to him immediately. However, the SHO of Zaida police station said that Aqil Shah, a 12-year-old boy, informed them about the bombs planted in the area. The bombs were exposed by heavy rain, he added.
Mr Khan said that criminals wanted to target the 500KV transmission line from Tarbela Dam to Sheikh Mohammadi grid station, Peshawar. “The bombs would have caused a big disaster as they were ready for use,” he added.
The criminals had already targeted power pylons of 500KV transmission line from Tarbela Dam to Sheikh Mohammadi grid station three times.
The DPO said police were protecting Tarbela Dam-Sheikh Mohammadi transmission line under a well-planed strategy. “Police officials are monitoring the power supply line regularly,” he added.
The Tarbela Dam authorities have also stepped up security after the previous sabotage incidents. An official, when contacted, said that it was difficult for police to guard the entire transmission line from the dam to Peshawar but they had chalked out a mechanism for it with the help of police. “The strategy has really worked so far,” he said.
