10 Nato oil tankers gutted in Khairpur
SUKKUR: Unknown miscreants set on fire 10 Nato oil tankers here on Monday. Reports said some miscreants first opened fire at the tankers, supplying oil to the Nato forces in Afghanistan, parked outside a local hotel near Karamabad, and then set them on fire, resulting in destruction of 10 oil tankers.
Police and fire tenders were called in, but 10 out of 30 oil tankers were totally destroyed. Two of the fire extinguishers received burn injuries as well as two drivers of the tankers received injuries in the process.
Police have cordoned off the area and investigating the matter. Hotel sources said the oil tankers were stationed there for two days. ASP Khairpur City Muhammed Abrar said there was a possibility of the involvement of some extremist group behind the incident, however, he added, investigation was underway. Sources were of the view that the contractors are likely to be involved in the incident as after selling oil to some private parties, they destroy the evidences.
