50 suspects arrested in Quetta operation
QUETTA: More than 50 suspects have been arrested during search operation against criminals in Saryab area of Quetta on Tuesday. Police, Anti-Terrorism Force and FC personnel are taking part in the search operation with assistance via aerial surveillance.
The operation was launched after two different firing incidents in the area on July 29 on Saryab Road, and July 30 on Sapni road. According to police sources, the search operation will continue until its goals are achieved.
Earlier, A shutter-down strike was observed across Balochistan on Sunday in protest against the firing in Quetta which claimed 11 lives on Saturday.
The strike was called by the Hazara Democratic Party, which is supported by Aithade Tajeeran-e- Balochistan.
At least 11 people, including a woman, were killed and three others injured in a sectarian attack targeting the Shia community in Quetta on Saturday morning, when gunmen opened fire on a passenger vehicle.
“The vehicle was passing by a bus stand when gunmen riding in another car opened fire, killing at least 11 people and wounding three others,” Quetta’s police chief Hamid Shakeel said. Another police official said it appeared to be a sectarian attack as all those killed were Shias from the Hazara community.
Outlawed militant organisation Lashkar-i-Jhangvi has claimed responsibility for the attack.
