Islamabad: Crime rate decreases during 2011
Islamabad: Overall crime rate in Islamabad during the first six months of current year decreased significantly and recovery rate of narcotics, weapons also increased due to efficient policing techniques being adopted by the cops on the directions of police chief IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, a police spokesman said.
The commitment and devotion by the personnel of Islamabad Police despite several constraints made them successful against the criminal elements during the first six months of this year. A total of 3,196 cases were registered during the first six month of year 2010 and 3,607 cases in the year 2011. But this difference is not due to increase in criminal incidents but owing to good performance and cases registered in police stations after recovery of weapons, narcotics, under foreign act and also of miscellaneous cases under anti-beggary act, 188 PPC, 420, 468 PPC and interference in official working.
The spokesman said that 319 cases of narcotics recovery were registered in various police stations of Islamabad during first six months of 2010 while recovery rate increased in the corresponding period of the year 2011 and a total of 545 cases were registered. Similarly, the cases of weapons recovery also increased from 338 to 448.
Meanwhile, 224 cases of car-theft were recovered in first six months of 2010 while 278 in 2011.
The police officers and jawans remained firm against the menace of terrorism and also emerged successful during the ongoing year in countering criminal elements, the murderers, drug pushers, robbers and criminal gangs.
Policing has become very much tough job in the present situation but one should appreciate those performing well as the ratio of the total traced cases and countering terror threats is really appreciable.
IGP Bani Amin and SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan devised a comprehensive security and patrolling plan during the year 2011 which remained very effective in controlling the crime.
During six months of this year, 58 murder cases were registered as compared to 62 cases in the corresponding period of last year while 151 ‘hurt cases’ were registered in the police stations of the capital as compared to 181 during the last year.

The citizens are, and should be proud of the fact that Islamabad Police have always performed diligently and respond quickly to SoS calls from public. “The performance of the capital police can be gauged from the fact that number of aborted terrorist plots and detection of crime in the capital is more than any other district police across the country,” Bani Amin maintained.
SSP Tahir Alam Khan said the main reason behind this success is the strategy of community and vigilant policing.
