Lahore: Fruit vendor shot dead
LAHORE: A 50-year-old fruit vendor was shot dead by two unidentified motorbike riders in the Sabzi Mandi in the Ravi Road area on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Dost Muhammad Khan, a resident of Sawat district. He was purchasing fruit from the fruit market when two motorbike riders shot and injured him and escaped. The victim was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have registered a murder case against the unidentified accused on the complaint of the deceased’s son Anayat Ullah.
Man held over Rs 0.8m bogus cheque: Ghulshan-e-Ravi police on Thursday claimed to have arrested an accused allegedly involved in handing over a bogus cheque worth Rs800,000 to a citizen.
The accused was identified as Dr Imtiaz Bashir. Police said that on July 31, one Sheikh Nazeer Ahmad had filed an application contending that Dr Imtiaz Bashir had demanded Rs 800,000 from him for the admission of his nephew to a medical college. He had given the money to Dr Imtiaz and received a cheque from him as a guarantee of his money.
He said Dr Imtiaz failed to admit his nephew to a medical college. Later, he went to the bank concerned for withdrawing his money but came to know that the cheque was bogus. On application of Sheikh Nazeer, Ghulshan-e-Ravi police registered a case against the accused who was arrested on Thursday.
Meanwhile, police have got three days physical remand of the accused and has started course of investigation.
