Bara: Ansarul Islam leader escapes grenade attack
BARA: A leader of the Tirah-based militant group, Ansarul Islam, narrowly escaped a hand grenade attack near his house in Momin Town in Peshawar early Friday, a commander of the group told The News.
Pleading not to be named, he said that Sahibzada, a leader of AI, was on way to the mosque from his house to offer morning prayers when two persons suddenly appeared and hurled two hand grenades at him.One hand grenade exploded near him and the other did not explode. However, he remained unhurt in the attack.
Sahibzada is the brother Mobin Khan, the former spokesman for AI, and Dr Naeem. His elder brother Maulana Mastameen was kidnapped and killed by the Bara-based banned militant organisation Lashkar-e-Islam in Tirah valley. His younger brother Mobin Khan was killed in a car explosion in Peshawar some three years back. Dr Naeem was removed by AI after developing difference with his group and since then he has been hiding somewhere in Pakistan.
