Man jailed for seven years in illicit arms case
KARACHI: A sessions court on Friday sentenced a man to seven-year imprisonment in an illicit weapons case. The court found Asif Baloch guilty of keeping unlawful weapons within the remit of the Memon Goth police station in February 2009.
Additional district and sessions judge (Malir) Saleem Raza Baloch, who conducted the trial, pronounced the judgment after hearing both sides.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on the convict; in case of non-payment he would have to undergo an additional three-month imprisonment.
The court in its verdict ruled that the prosecution had successfully brought the crime of the accused at home by placing ample evidence before the court. According to the prosecution, the police arrested the accused and found an unlicensed weapon in his possession.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to having stored a sizable number of weapons in Memon Goth. The police seized the weapons on a lead given by the accused.
