Bogus cheque accused granted bail
LAHORE: A Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, granted bail on Monday to a man languishing in jail for eight months for issuing a bogus cheque.
Accused Ghulam Murtaza, through his counsel, pleaded the complainant was using delaying tactics by not producing witnesses before the trial court.
Justice Chaudhry said the Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code (offence of issuing bogus cheque) was being misused. He said the law provided only three years punishment for the offence but shockingly the accused was behind bars for the last eight months.
