Local PPP leader among four hurt in Lyari attack
KARACHI: A local leader of the Pakistan Peopleís Party (PPP) was among four people injured in a hand grenade and gun attack in the Chakiwara area of Lyari late on Tuesday night. The SSP South said that unknown people hurled a hand grenade and then opened fire at the general secretary of the PPP District South, Zafar Baloch, injuring him along with his friend and a child.
Baloch, who was hit by two bullets, was taken to a private hospital, according to Geo News. His injuries are not life-threatening. The other injured were taken to the Lyari General Hospital and the Civil Hospital. The attack caused tension in the area, where shops were closed. After the incident, heavy firing broke out in Lyari and parts of the old city including Lea Market, Khadda Market, Baghdadi, Eidgah and Kharadar.
A hand grenade was lobbed at the Salar Compound area in Eidgah. A woman Razia was injured in the Risala area and two injured men were shifted to hospital. The Sindh chief secretary has asked the IG to submit a report on the incident and ordered an inquiry. Firing in the disbured areas of the city was continuing till the filing of this report.
