Karachi: PPP, MQM men among six shot dead
Karachi: Six people, including an activist of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and two of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), were shot dead in different parts of the city on Wednesday.
Akbar was fired upon and seriously injured by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in the Dhobi Ghath area, Garden police limits, on Wednesday morning.
He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Akbar was a resident of the Garden area and also activist of the MQM. Police described his murder a target killing. Mohammad Asif (26) was gunned down on Burnes Road in the Arambagh police limits a few hours before Iftar.
He was working as a labourer at a glass frame shop on Brunes Road when he was shot dead inside the shop. Asif received multiple bullet wounds on various parts of his body. He was also said to be an activist of the MQM and lived in the same area.
After the incident, tension gripped the area where armed men resorted to aerial firing and forced the shopkeepers to pull down shutters. However, police managed to bring the situation under control after some time.
In the Baldia Town area, armed men targeted Yousuf Baloch, a senior activist of the PPP. He was shot dead by unknown bike-riders outside his house in Baldia No-8 late on Tuesday night.
Yousuf Baloch received multiple bullet wounds on various parts of his body. The incident caused panic in the locality as armed men resorted to aerial firing and life remained paralysed in the area till Wednesday noon.
Police described Baloch’s murder as part of the ongoing target killings in the city. He was also the Baldia area president of the People’s Amn Committee (PAC) and senior worker of the Pakistan People’s Partu. Further investigations are under way.
A rickshaw driver, identified by police as Riaz, was fired upon and seriously injured in his vehicle in the Ranchore Lane area, Eidgah late on Tuesday night.
He was taken to hospital where he expired during treatment. The bullet-riddled bodies of two men were found from Risala and Pak Colony police areas.
The body of a man of 32-35 years of age, bearing torture marks and bullet injuries and stuffed in a gunny bag, was found from Chand Bibi Road in the Risala police station limits.
The body of another man, riddled with bullets and stuffed in a gunny bag, was recovered from near the Shershah scrap market.
On Wednesday evening, a cracker was lobbed in the Moachko area due to which three passers-by sustained injuries. Police said that unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle lobbed a cracker near the Chawal Godown, causing injuries to three people.
The cracker was locally-made and it was an attempt by criminals to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the area, police said, adding, they collected evidences from the crime scene and were investigating the matter.
