Profiteers fined Rs 190,000 in Ramazan
ISLAMABAD: Special price checking teams, headed by the magistrates, imposed Rs 190,000 fines on the profiteers during the first Ashra of Ramazan to ensure the availability of food items at the controlled rates.
During the food sampling, over 188 samples of different food items including basin, ghee, oil, jalebi, haldi and sweets were taken from the shops for laboratory testing. District Health Officer (DHO) had issued warning on Tuesday that in case any sample is declared failed, heavy fines would be imposed on the offenders.
DHO and Assistant Director Food Afzal said that during checking of hotels and bakeries, five hotels and four bakeries were challaned under the pure food act and sanitation laws for poor hygienic and sanitary conditions.
