Swabi: Fake beverages factory sealed, owner held
SWABI: Police arrested the owner of a fake beverage factory and seized hundreds of bottles, filled with substandard soft drinks, officials said here on Wednesday.
They said that a joint team of Chota Lahor police station and district health department raided a factory in Mohalla Patwaran at Manki and arrested its owner Fazal Ihsan.
They said that police also seized 36 crates of bottles, filled with different kinds of soft drinks having labels of famous beverage companies. The raiding team found several drums of different chemicals, stickers of famous soft drink companies, bottle caps and printing material. The officials of health department sealed the factory.
Officials said when they along with deputy district officer of revenue, Jamshid Khan, asked about the owner of the factory his family members told them that he had gone to some unknown place. The factory was locked from outside, they added.
“When police started to break the locks, the owner appeared from inside without knowing that police and other officials wanted to arrest him,” they added. Police arrested him and registered a case under Pure Food Ordinance against him.
The district food inspector, Bakhat Sardar, said that the office of district coordination officer was receiving complaints from different quarters, including multinational companies, that someone was marketing bogus soft drink in the name of their companies.
He said that doors of the factory used to be locked at daytime as it worked at night. He said that that they took samples of drinks for laboratory tests. “The results are expected within two weeks. We arrested him because he did have a licence.
