One burnt alive, 15 hurt as mini-bus torched
KARACHI: In a new wave of violence on Friday night, a passenger was burnt alive when a mini-bus he was traveling in was set on fire by unknown miscreants near Tower. Fifteen people were injured. A total of eight vehicles were also torched in various parts of the city. Unidentified men set the mini-bus of route W-11 packed with passengers on fire near Tower on Keamari road.
One passenger was burnt alive and 15 others received injuries, and were shifted to hospital. Incidents of torching vehicles and firing were reported from various part of the country’s financial capital, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Safora Goth, Sachal, Banaras, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Keamari, Al-Asif Square, Tower, Baldia, Rizvia, Do-Minute Chowrangi, NIPA Chowrangi, Ghakkar Pathak, Malir and Shah Faisal Colony. Two buses were set ablaze in Mai Kolachi and Steel Town area while one was torched near Nadria Hotel in Nazimabad.
A trawler set on fire by miscreants was saved by fire tenders in Awami Colony. Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan said that police and Rangers had arrested 13 people involved in violence in the city besides recovering weapons from their possession.
Three vehicles were also torched in Hyderabad. The violence erupted on the eve of a strike call given for Saturday by Sindhi nationalists against the Local Bodies system 2002.
