Rawalpindi: Rs200,000 fines imposed on profiteers
Rawalpindi: The City District Government, Rawalpindi, in a crackdown against profiteers Monday imposed fine to the tune of Rs200,000 on them. Special Price Magistrate Raja Jhangir Ahmed Khan and Special Price Magistrate Imtiaz Ahmed Khan Khichi imposed fine on sellers of milk, fruit, ‘pakoras’ and ‘samosas’, vegetable as well as butchers in the Muslim Town and Banni areas.
They also raided Eidgha Road, Asghar Mall Road, Naik Alam Bhatta, Pindora Road, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town and some other areas.
The magistrates told ‘The News’ that profiteers in the open market taking full advantage of Ramazan ‘sasta’ bazaars and looting poor consumers. They are taking 100 per cent profit on every item in Ramazan.
“We have started registering FIR under Section 3/7 to shift profiteers to Adiala Jail directly,” they warned. Meanwhile, residents of Gulzar-e-Quaid, Scheme No-III, Chaklala, Airport, Dhoke Hafiz and Shah Khalid Colony have said that profiteers are taking more than 100 per cent profit on all items but concerned management is totally unmoved against it.
