Karachi: 2 cops sent to jail in fake encounter case
Karachi: Two policemen were sent to jail after their bail application in a case related to the kidnapping and murder of a citizen was rejected by a sessions court on Tuesday.
Head Constable Shafiq Anjum and Constable Abdul Latif appeared before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Abdul Razzak for the confirmation of their pre-arrest bail. The judge, however, dismissed their application after a post-mortem report was submitted to the court, which showed that Mohammad Ali Butt was shot dead from a point-blank range by the policemen in the Baloch Colony police limits in December 2010.
According to the prosecution, six policemen kidnapped Butt and later killed him but they claimed that he was killed in a police encounter. An FIR was registered on the orders of the ADJ South.
Following the dismissal of their bail application on Tuesday, the two policemen were taken into custody, stripped of their badges and sent to jail.
Earlier, the court had declared them proclaimed offenders and their moveable and immoveable properties were also attached. Besides, several warrants were issued against them but they did not turn up in the court.
The absconding police personnel in the case include Assistant Sub-Inspector Faisal Jaffery, Head Constable Ejaz Ahmed and Constable Namoos Khan.
