Lahore: PML-Q MPA disqualified for bogus degree
LAHORE: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court Thursday disqualified the PML-Q MPA from Sahiwal, Walayat Shah Khagga, to hold membership in the Punjab Assembly. Accepting the petition of PML-N losing candidate from the same constituency PP-220, Nazar Muhammad Fatyana, the court directed the election commission to hold election on the vacant seat of Khagga within two months.
The petitioner had questioned the graduation degree of his rival Walayat Shah alleging it was fake and bogus. He alleged the respondent was never enrolled as candidate with the Alkhair University, AJK, and that it was not a recognised institution by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He alleged the respondent was hit by the disqualification clause of the constitution for he had concealed the fact and duped the election authorities by way of presenting a fake graduation degree.
During the proceedings, a local commission was appointed by the LHC judge who assisted in the case by recording statements of witnesses from both the parties. The court also sought comment/reply from the HEC which supported the petition of Nazar against Khagga.
