‘Nine target killers, eight extortionists’ arrested in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh Police in a crackdown against target killers and the extortion mafia arrested nine alleged target killers and eight extortionists from different parts of the city and recovered arms from their possession on Tuesday.

SSP Mohammed Naeem Sheikh of District South said that investigation into the target killings and cracker attacks, which were reported in district south in the past week, was under way.

 

During the probe, he received information that the North Nazimabad police had arrested four suspects, who were found to be involved in criminal offences, and recovered weapons from their possession, he said.

 

The SSP said the suspects were identified as Shahnawaz, Mustafa, Naeem and Rafiq and they belong to Akram Baloch group of Lyari.

 



The gangsters disclosed that they had lobbed a hand grenade and conducted a fire attack on the convoy of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior worker Zafar Baloch in which he (Zafar) had been injured and one of his guards died and other sustained injuries.

 

 

SSP Sheikh said the gangsters also confessed to killing 13 people, including one they had recently killed in the Napier area, and also lobbing a cracker in the Jhat Phat market. Moreover, SPD had also arrested alleged target killers, including Muhammad Azeem Baig, Arif Mian, Khanzada Khan and M Shafi, from other parts of the city.

 

In yet another raid, Saeedabad police had arrested one Abdul Ghaffar, who was also involved in target killings cases. According to a statement issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh office, the Saeedabad police in a raid arrested Abdul Ghaffar, a worker of MQM-A with arms. Police also arrested extortionists including Amjad, Ali Murad, Faqeer Zada, Jameel, Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Suleman, Muhammad Ashraf Khan and Muhammad Amir Qureshi.
