Hyderabad: Police claim killing bandit in encounter
HYDERABAD: An alleged bandit was killed and three others received injuries in a disputed encounter within the Hussainabad area on Tuesday.
The police claimed that they were fired upon by accomplices of the bandits, but it was immediately denied by the injured bandits.
The four bandits were arrested on Monday morning following an attempted house robbery in Civil Lines area within the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station.
The deceased was identified as Manzoor Ali Lashari alias Liaquat alias Raja alias Shahnawaz. The injured included Imdad Soomro, Masoom alias Shaharyar Bengali and Basheer Bengali.
The bandits were nabbed by police after they entered into the residence of Dr Gul Mohammad Memon in Civil Lines on Monday.
Police cordoned the bungalow after someone informed them through a cell phone. The bandits were forced to surrender after the siege.
Police sources said that they were handed over to CIA police for further interrogation. According to police statement on Tuesday, a police party took the bandits to flood protective dyke of River Indus near Latifabad-4 in the jurisdiction of Hussainabad police station for arrest of their accomplices, two of whom were identified as Soomi Bangalan and Rehana.
Police said that when they, along with arrested accused reached in the area, they were fired upon by their accomplices and the accused received injuries in the crossfire. No policeman, however, received injuries during exchange of fire.
The injured were taken to Civil Hospital where Manzoor Ali died due to profuse bleeding. The other three were provided treatment.
Police said that they were allegedly involved in crime No 49/10 of Anti- Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) in a Karachi police station, FIR No 109/10 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station and FIR No 55/10 of Shahara-e-Faisal police station.
The accused told some journalists that they were taken to hilly area in the wee hours of Tuesday and were fired upon. They confessed that they had come to commit house robbery in the bungalow on Monday.
