5 target killing suspects remanded to police custody
Karachi: A target killing suspect arrested from Baldia Town late on Tuesday night in connection with the violence that hit the city last week was remanded to police custody on Wednesday.
Only one suspect, Ejaz Chotoo arrested during the surgical operation launched on Tuesday night, was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate (West) Azizullah Khoso on Wednesday by the Investigation Officer for obtaining remand.
The court remanded him into police custody for two days. However, the 24 other suspects, arrested from different parts of the city during the surgical operation being carried out by the Rangers and police, were not produced in any of the courts.
A hooded Chotoo was produced in the court. According to the investigation officer (IO), he was involved in many criminal activities and police had also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from his possession, which he used during the city’s current violence that claimed the lives of about 100 people and left several others injured.
Meanwhile, four suspects associated with the Akram Baloch group and allegedly involved in target killings were remanded into police custody till August 27. Shahnawaz, Naeem Jan, Mustafa and Rafiq were produced in the court of the judicial magistrate (central) on Wednesday. They were arrested from North Nazimabad for possessing illegal arms.
