Lahore: Body-builder, kin shot dead by dacoits
LAHORE: Continuing their ruthless action, dacoits on Sunday evening shot dead a body-builder-cum-trader and his brother-in-law in Samanabad. The wife of one of the dead and sister to the other lost her mental balance after witnessing the grusome murders in front of her eyes.
“The 34-year-old Malik Ijaz Subhani (body-builder) and his brother-in-law, of the same age, were shot dead by two robbers in Gulzeb Colony in the Samanabad police jurisdiction as they offered resistance during street robbery,” police officer Muntazir Mahdi told The Nation on Sunday.
Meanwhile, as dacoities and killings during robberies have increased in the provincial metropolis, police have demanded the government to allow them extra-judicial killings. A police officer, seeking anonymity told this reporter that the police high-command is very upset and unable to stop killings during armed robberies here in the capital of the largest province of the country. “If we will not kill them (robbers), they will kill people,” the police officer commented, when asked to comment on the sharp surge in killings during armed robberies. According to the officer, extra-judicial killings and fake encounters are the only solution to close the chapter of desperate gangsters involved in killings of innocent people.
According to police, Malik Ijaz, a Queen’s Road trader, and his wife were coming back after attending a function at a marriage hall when two gunmen intercepted them. The police said that the couple, riding a motorcycle, had just reached outside the residence of the woman’s parents when the bandits stopped them.
The gunmen held up the couple and demanded cash and gold ornaments. “As Ijaz offered resistance and also tried to capture one of the bandits, the other robber opened fire at him from a close range,” SP Iqbal Town Mr Mahdi said. He said that the robbers tried to escape from the crime scene when one Kashif, the brother-in-law of Ijaz, came out from his residence and challenged the robbers.
Kashif managed to capture one of the bandits but the other robber also opened fire on him to secure his accomplice. Ultimately, the bandits riding on motorcycle managed to escape from the crime scene. Both the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Local residents said that the woman, who witnessed the killings of her husband and brother right in front of her lost her mental balance. Meanwhile, hundreds of residents of the area gathered on the spot and staged strong protest demonstration against the worsening law and order situation and blocked the road.
On Friday, dacoits gunned down father of two, identified as Aslam Shafique, near his residence in Shadbagh police area. The man was coming back home after serving Sehri food to his brother who was sitting at Aitkaaf at a nearby Masjid when two motorcyclists intercepted him near to his house (Rajput Park, Street No 2, ) in the Shadbagh police area. According to the police record, robbers have killed at least five people including a housewife on offering resistance here in the City during the last couple of days.
