Rawalpindi: Smuggling bid foiled
RAWALPINDI: The Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.2kg heroin to the UK and arrested a man at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Sunday. The heroin cache with estimated street value of Rs3.5 million was tactfully concealed in two pairs of shoes.
The authorities said British-Pakistani, Mohammad Khalid, entered the departure lounge on a wheelchair posing as a patient while check-in of PIA flight PK-785 for London was in progress.
The passenger, carrying a bag containing two pairs of long shoes, made his way through the counters of ANF and Customs and even managed to cross ASF checking.
However, an ASF female guard spotted him acting suspiciously and informed ASF SI Khawaja Mohammad who stopped him. On search, he recovered heroin concealed tactfully in the shoes.
It is worth-mentioning here that Mohammad Khalid was also captured by the ANF for trying to smuggle 9kg opium in 2006 and was convicted for his involvement in the case.
