Karachi: Police remand of ‘assassin’ extended
KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday extended the police remand of an alleged assassin in a murder case till Tuesday.
The suspect — Ijaz alias Chhoto — said to be associated with a political party, was produced before a judicial magistrate (west) and the police sought an extension in his physical remand for further interrogations.
The magistrate extended the remand for one day and directed the investigation officer of the case to produce him on the next date.
Meanwhile, the IO also submitted an application in court for holding an identification parade of the suspect. On Aug 25, the court remanded the suspect in police custody till Aug 29.
The police claimed that the suspect was arrested on Aug 23 within the remit of the Baldia police station in an illicit weapon case and during interrogations he disclosed that he was also involved in dozens of cases pertaining to targeted killings.
In the present case, the suspect was accused of killing Ali Nawaz Baloch in June, 2011 in Saeedabad.
The suspect also disclosed that he along with his absconding accomplices Naseem, Ghaffar and Sarwar alias Chacha had killed the victim, the police added.
A case (FIR 375/11) was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Saeedabad police station on the complaint of the deceased’s brother.
