22 held after attacks on vehicles
PARACHINAR: Following the ambush of passenger vehicles by unknown persons that left 11 persons dead, the political administration arrested 22 tribesmen under the collective responsibility section of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) in Kurram Agency on Saturday.
Sources said that 11 tribesmen each were arrested from the Alizai and Cheki Killay as the two vehicles were ambushed nearby in the Makhizai and Zeranai areas located in the lower part of Kurram Agency last Thursday and Friday.
Eleven persons, including a minor, were killed and two others sustained injuries in the incident. The victims belonged to both the Shia and Sunni sects, who have been at loggerheads since the 2007 sectarian crisis in the Kurram tribal region.
In the first incident, a passenger vehicle on way to Parachinar from Alizai was sprayed with bullets in the Makhizai village. The attack left seven persons, including a minor dead, tribal sources said.
In the second incident that took place near Zeranai area a vehicle on its way from Baggan to Sadda town was attacked and four persons lost their lives in the incident. The sources said the authorities moved into action soon after the incident and arrested 11 persons from both the Makhizai and Zeranai areas.
