Lahore: SHO held for releasing thieves
LAHORE: Wahdat Colony Station House Officer Hamid Mahmood was arrested and booked on Tuesday after three car thieves escaped from police custody.
DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, who suspended the SHO from service, ordered registration of a case after Iqbal Town division SP Muntazir Mehdi held him responsible for helping the suspects – Sohail, Yahya and Nisar — escape from the lock-up.
Police sources told Dawn that Inspector Hamid had two weeks ago released three motorbike thieves — Imran, Mumtaz and Dastgir — after receiving Rs0.7 million from them. The officer was confined in the lock-up after registration of a case against him.
