Peshawar: Explosive-laden vehicle seized, 3 persons arrested
PESHAWAR: The local police seized a vehicle and recovered explosives in Din Bahar Colony as the security high alert continued in the city on Tuesday after reports that two explosive-laden vehicles had entered the city.
An official said that acting on a tip-off, the Faqirabad Police stopped a vehicle bearing registration number LXW-999 in Din Bahar Colony and during search recovered four rockets and as many hand grenades from it. Three persons identified as Imran, Waqas and Hassan were taken into custody and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
There were reports about the presence of another explosive-laden car in University Town after which the bomb disposal unit was called. The car was, however, cleared.
There have been reports for the last three days that explosive-filled trucks and cars have entered the city for sabotage activity after which high alert has been ordered in and around the city. The strength of cops has also been increased on entry points to properly check the suspected vehicles and persons coming from the nearby tribal areas.
Meanwhile, several roads in front of the police stations and other sensitive buildings remained closed for third consecutive day, causing severe traffic jam on different routes.
