Karachi: ‘SMP militant’ sent to jail
Karachi: The same court on Wednesday remanded a suspect in judicial custody in a number of murder cases till Sept 15. Suspect Muntazar Imam, said to be associated with the banned Sipah-i-Mohammad Pakistan (SMP), have been booked in a dozen cases of murder including the killing of Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem, his son and other leaders of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat.
The CID police arrested the suspect in May this year. The suspect had informed the court that he was subjected to torture in police custody and claimed that he was out of country when these murders were taken place. The court had directed two police officers — DIG Majeed Dasti and DIG Sultan Khawaja — to investigate the matter and submit their reports.
The special public prosecutor said that the DIGs submitted the reports on Wednesday and the court would take up the matter on Sept 15.
