8 suspects arrested in metropolis
KARACHI: At least eight people, including a target killer disguised in Rangers attire, were arrested from different areas of the metropolis on Friday.
Three suspects were apprehended in a raid at Mauripur. Sources said that the suspects identified as Nisar Memon, Rizwan and Hassan were apprehended by Rangers during a raid on a tip-off about their hideout in Mauripur. Sources further said that one kalashnikov and three TT pistols were also recovered from their possessions. The suspects were taken to an undisclosed location for further investigation where during initial course of interrogation, they confessed to have killed at least five people in separate acts of violence.
Separately, police apprehended a phony official of Pakistan Rangers allegedly involved in the recent wave of violence and target killings. Police officials said that the accused identified as Qamar Zaman was arrested during a routine patrolling near Old Golimar and one TT pistol was also recovered from his possession. They said that the suspect was in Rangers uniform and portrayed to be a sub-inspector of Rangers but verification with the Rangers revealed that he had no link with them. They said that a case was registered against the suspect and he was locked up.
Separately, Sohrab Goth police arrested five people namely Jalil, Ghulam Abbas, Abdul Fateh, Arif and Khalil Ahmed from Ayub Goth and recovered one rifle and four TT pistols. Police official said they were involved in murder, extortion and other crimes. A case has been registered and further investigation in this regard was underway.
