Karachi: 2 suspects remanded in police custody
Karachi: The Judicial Magistrate (Central) remanded two of the suspects into police custody till Saturday (today) for their alleged involvement in target killing.
Sanaullah Charya and Sohail Ali were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Zabiha Khattak on Friday. Special Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted a raid at the hideout at Angara Goth, Liaquatabad after an encounter arrested Sanaullah.
The SIU also arrested Ali and recovered a huge cache of weapons. According to the prosecution accused Sanaullah alias Charya had been arrested by the police in 1996 in 35 cases of a criminal nature which also included the offence of murder and was later sent to jail.
Sanaullah remained imprisoned for more than five years, but when the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was passed in 2008. Sanaullah, being an active member of a political party, was acquitted in all the cases.
The police also claimed to have seized an AK-47 rifle and three pistols found in the possession of the suspects. They were arrested in Liaquatabad B Area and Nursery bus stop, the police said.
